HomeMade Solar Panels - Can I Really Build My Own?

Posted by admin on February 25th, 2009

Building your own solar panels is a great way to protect the environment and slash your monthly electricity bill. Contrary to common perception, making solar panels is very easy and doesn’t require any special skills. The materials you are going to need are: metal scissors, sandpaper, an electrical stove, copper leads, copper flashing sheet, etc. You can find these materials at your local hardware store at a very low price.

The benefits of having your own residential solar power:

  1. Reduce your electricity bill by more than 80%.
  2. Create more energy than you use and get paid by your utility company.
  3. Help to fight global warming and protect the environment by reducing your carbon footprint.
  4. Stop depending on non-renewable energy resources. You can have your own power source and stop caring about power outages.
  5. You can go completely off-grid, not affected in the least by rising energy prices.
  6. Get tax credits for using green energy.
  7. You can have a lot of fun in the process!

To build this system you will need to spend $100 - $200 and you can use it to power any appliance in your home: computer, lights, washing machine, fridge. Compared to the cost of installing a pre-made solar panel, making your own home solar system is much more affordable, considering the fact that a ready made one way cost up to $3000. It would be better to install the system on your roof so that it can absorb direct sunlight, but you can also use the backyard or the garden. The most important step you need to take if want to generate your own electricity, is to seek out a quality and detailed manual. There are many diy guides available online that can walk you through the process of building homemade solar panels.

These guides can provide with:

  • Tons of diagrams or even videos.
  • Easy to follow instructions.
  • Information about where to get all the needed parts.
  • Details about how to find cheap materials.

Collecting and taking advantage of the power of the sun is now easier and cheaper than ever. There plenty of people who are now installing their own solar energy system.
If you want to join them…

Here’s the best way to make Homemade Solar Panels.  This kit, Earth4Energy, is one of the top solar energy kits on the market today, and with good reason.  It’s easy, detailed step-by-step instructions are very thorough and easy to follow.  It also comes with a detailed video guide.  Here’s a peek inside the earth4energy manual, or you can read my full earth4energy review if you want more information.

Can Build Your Own Solar Panel Kits Save On Solar Panel Cost, And Save Big Bucks?

When I hear the word ‘kit’, I always recall putting erector sets together for my Children, where the box said ’some assembly needed" I used to just cringe,
when I read it! The instructions were constantly incorrect! Or, possibly it was just my interpretation of them. As the years went on, I got pretty good at putting hings together. Now days, more or less everything that you buy needs some sort of assembly. Now, you can even put home solar panel kits together, and even make them from scratch!

When it comes to solar energy panels for your house, just a few years back, it was only a passing thought, because solar panel cost was just too expensive!
Nowadays, however, there are a multitude of options available. Its like everything else. Supply and demand causes the selection that’s available, and with ever raising electric cost, and the economy making all of us take a closer look at expenses. There are more and more effective options available.

Today, there are some big name companies offering solar kits, that you can build in your garage. Just to name a few, BP and general Electric are now in the Solar Power game. If you decide to go the kit route, make sure you do business with a reputable company. Just a few pointers to look for;

* How long has the company been in business?
* How long have they been not only in the solar business, but how long have they been producing kits?
* What is the warranty? Who do you have to call for service?
* What all is warranted? Get a copy of their warranty, and check out the fine print.
* How clear are the directions?
* Does the kit have everything you need, or will there be surprises.
* Who do you call if you need help?
* How much electric will this system produce?

These are just some of the basic questions that you will need answers to. One ore big one, is how much will it be? I would opt for great answers to all of the above questions and pay a few dollars more, but that’s just me. I learned the old adage penny wise and pound foolish a long time ago.

There is another option available too! You can build your own home solar energy system! Yep, that’s what I said, build your own solar panels! That’s the route I’ve taken, and my thinking is simple. I can build it at my own pace. I can start small and since I know how to build them, I can add on to my system, when I can afford it. No big cash outlay!

Earth4energy Review - New Ebook Creates Renewable Energy Buzz

Posted by admin on January 17th, 2009

A recently released eBook entitled Earth4Energy has created quite a buzz on the internet over recent weeks.

The book is about something that is fundamentally quite simple — using wind power and solar energy in your own home to generate electricity. Already there are people making use of these technologies, so why has the book been received with such open arms?

The main reason is that, up until now, solar power and wind energy have been quite cost prohibitive. Generally, they have only been setup by people who were either in areas with no stable electricity supply or by environmentally aware individuals with big chequebooks.

With the price of home energy beginning to skyrocket — helped in no part by the high fossil fuel prices — green values are no longer the main driver for people interested in finding out how to setup their own electricity supply. Saving money — something that everybody has an inclination to do — is now the main driver, with environmental concerns being a positive outcome.

So what is Earth4Energy about? Earth4Energy is a guide on how to use the environment around our houses as a natural supply of electricity. Many homeowners live in areas with good wind speed, and almost everyone lives in areas that get sunshine — both of these can be easily harnessed. The book gives guides on how to setup both a solar electricity generation system and a wind electricity generation system. It tells you how to build these products cheaply but safely — depending on the parts used it is possible to setup both systems for between $100 — $200.

The electricity generated can be used for a number of things — from a small supply to power your tools, lighting or water heating, to being wired up to your main supply and powering everything in your house (with the help of a proper electrician of course). If you live in the right state/country, and generate enough electricity, you may even be able to feed some of it back into the grid.

How to Build Home Made Solar Panels

Posted by admin on January 16th, 2009

How To Build A Small Solar Panel

With the advent of solar energy kits on the market, building your own solar panel is easily achievable for most people, and you do not need any special technical skills.  I build my panels in a weekend, and my teenage son helped me out.  In fact, the materials you’ll need are available at the local hardware store and the tools you’ll need are very standard.  The materials include: plywood, salt, copper wire, sandpaper, metal scissors, and the like.   If you want to read more about my story on how I built my solar panels, you’re welcome to!

Simply ensure that you have a rooftop which directly faces the sun and that has extensive sunlight. Ensure that the angle and location where you place your homemade solar panels are in the position of capturing the optimal amount of sunlight. If you do not have a large sun facing rooftop, consider using your backyard or garden to capture solar energy.

It is important to note that the solar panels absorb and collect the UV wavelengths of the sunlight for conversion into electricity. Hence, the cells are capable of collecting and storing energy, i.e. the UV wavelengths even in cloudy weather. The only difference is that in a sunny day, the solar panels work better and less hard.

The top Solar Energy Kit on the market right now is Earth 4 Energy.  Their ebook and online video will detail how to build, install, and run your homemade solar power system.   Here is a page detailing the contents of the Earth4Energy package, along with screenshots from the product. One of the reasons Earth 4 Energy is the top DIY Solar Kit available right now is because of it’s detailed step-by-step instruction manual.  I really liked the combination of video and written instruction…it worked well for me.

The cost will run less than $200 for materials.  That comes in at less than 10% of a professionally installed system.  This will quickly pay for itself in the first month of two of use when your electricity savings kick in.  Here’s a full review I did of the Earth 4 Energy Kit if you want more information.

So start reducing your carbon footprint, start building your very own solar panels and Start cutting your utility bills by at least half.

Join the thousands of families tapping on renewable energy with homemade solar panels.

Installing DIY solar electricity is an excellent way to reduce your energy bills by harnessing the energy from the sun to generate electricity to power your home.

With the availability of DIY solar electricity kits, it is now easier than ever to install solar power systems yourself.  When you install solar power panels, it would not be unusual to save several thousand dollars a year on your energy bill. Another benefit is the generous tax deductions that most installations allow for.

It is a given that using the power of the sun will save money on the electricity bill.  The power generated from a solar energy system in your home is extremely reliable.  While most people would enjoy the benefits of such a system, they feel the installation cost is prohibitive.  The cost to have a system installed professionally can run into the thousands, which puts such a plan out of the reach of many homeowners.  What is often overlooked is the fact that the cost for the equipment and parts required is much cheaper than expected.  If a homeowner is willing to tackle the job of installation, it will soon become more attainable.

If you are thinking about undertaking a DIY solar electricity installation for your home but are afraid it will be too complicated or very hard work, relax.  With the right instructions, you can do it.  The necessary parts for the solar panels are really not all that complex.  All the parts that you will need are available at your neighborhood hardware store.  You can opt to do some research in order to find proper instructions and purchase the parts to build your own solar panels.  Some of the common parts will include a solar charge regulator, cabling a quality power inverter.  Another option is to purchase a solar panel kit that will contain all the parts and detailed instructions.  Many people will choose the solar energy kit to ensure that they have the correct hardware to carry out their relatively easy installation.

Many of the companies that manufacture and supply solar cells are more than happy to offer instructions and tips to homeowners that use their products to do a DIY solar electricity installation at their home.  Installing the solar electricity yourself will also allow you to customize the system to fit your needs.  You will also gain firsthand knowledge of how this efficient system operates, making maintenance, and upgrades in the future much easier and less expensive.

How to Make Solar Panels - Build Homemade Solar Panels & Save $1000s

Posted by admin on January 9th, 2009

Building homemade solar panels is an excellent way to save money and protect the environment at the same time. Making your own solar panels is not as difficult as it may sound. Some of the things you will need are: an electric stove, copper wires, a micro-meter etc.

These materials can be easily found in any hardware store. To build your own solar panels you will need to make solar cells, connect them in series and also connect the solar panels to one another. After that you should connect the solar panels to a battery and an inverter that will convert the solar energy into usable form for home use. It may take you a few days to complete the project, but it is definitely much better to do it yourself instead of paying up to $3000 for a ready made solar panel.

This is why you should use the power of the sun:

  • Save more than 80% on your electricity bill or even eliminate it completely.
  • Save on taxes for using green energy.
  • Gain money by selling the extra power to the electric company.
  • Reduce the pollution by using a clean and inexhaustible energy source.

The best place to install solar panels is your roof because there they can absorb direct sunlight, but if that is not an option you can also use your garden, your backyard and many other places. Solar cells collect energy even in cloudy days.

Solar energy systems can be used to produce electricity to power all devices in your home (photovoltaic) or to produce heat for bathing and your swimming pool (solar thermal system).

In general building your own solar power system costs less than $300 and practically pays for itself within a couple of months.

More and more people everyday take advantage of the power of the sun and save lots of money on electricity bills.

By following the step-by-step instructions of a Reliable Solar Energy Kit you can follow their example and protect the environment. Read this DIY Solar Kits Review and find the manual that best fits your needs.

Earth4Energy - Benefits and Solutions
By Darrel Case Platinum Quality Author

With all the advancement in science and technology, it’s a shame that we have not turned more to the other renewable resources of earth for energy.

There’s no denying that the world is most accustomed to oil, coal and gas as its power source. They are not so without good reasons. To be fair, these energy means have served us well over history but we are in a different situation and our planet is in another condition from yesteryear.

Alongside the comforts and conveniences of modernization are the negative side-effects which form part of the bargain. The cliché these days is how energy waste is harming the eco-balance of the earth. Global warming, freak weather pattern and natural disasters, environmental pollution, wild-life and forestry threats and hazards spontaneously spring to mind at the slightest mention of energy bi-products. The fact is it doesn’t have to be like that.

It isn’t Molecular Science or Nuclear Physics. Everybody knows that conservation is the obvious way of cutting down on fuel consumption. The resultant drop in demand will of course ultimately lead to reduction in both cost and pollution. Besides that, there need to be other measures to cope with the ever-increasing appetite for fuel in this industrialized age. There need to alternative sources of energy. Not just that, they have to be green too!

The price we pay for energy is not all that’s shown on the bill from the power company. Behind the charges on the bill, oil, gas and coal reserves are depleting quickly while their wastes continue to eat away at our planet. So it is obvious that the issue of energy facing most of us is basically two-pronged: cost and environmental factors. It is reasonable to mention here that each one of us is just as liable to one as the other and is obliged to take our individual measure of responsibility.

The obvious answer here is renewable energy. There are a variety of ways to tap the earth for energy. The ones with the greatest reach are wind and solar power generation. They can be handily decentralized into many small-scale grids or even individual stand-alone set-ups whereupon private homes would be able to join in on the energy crusade. Yes, any home can put up its very own wind and solar power generators through DIY and it’s a lot easier than most people think.

DIY guides for home wind and solar power generators are found in abundance on the internet. Competition is fierce and scams are rampant. But by following a few simple pointers, one should be able to identify the bona-fide ones from the pretenders. Any kit worth its salt should feature money-back guarantee, technical support and free lifetime updates. Short of that, pass.

If you are looking to Earth For Energy, our recommendation is outright. Let us share our views and information with you at Renewable Energy Sources.
